Date of SNAI Election: 13 March 2026
Venue: Florence Nightingale College of Nursing, GTB Hospital, Delhi
The Student Nurses’ Association of India (SNAI) Election Program for the academic year 2026 was successfully conducted at Florence Nightingale College of Nursing, GTB Hospital, Delhi. The purpose of organising the election program was to promote leadership, responsibility, and active participation among student nurses.
The program was organised systematically in the presence of distinguished dignitaries, faculty members, and student representatives from various nursing institutions.
SNAI Election Inauguration:
The program commenced with the registration of SNA representatives from 9:00 to 9:30 AM. The program started with Lamp Lighting and Saraswati Vandana, symbolising knowledge and wisdom.
The Welcome Address was delivered by Ms D. Shanthi Sankar, Delhi State SNAI Advisor, who warmly welcomed the chief guests, dignitaries, faculty members, and all students. In her address, she highlighted the importance of leadership among student nurses. She encouraged students to ensure a fair and transparent election process and to select capable leaders who could effectively serve the Student Nurses Association of Delhi Branch.
The dignitaries were felicitated with saplings as a symbol of appreciation and sustainability.
This was followed by the Presidential Address by Ms Yangchen Dolma, President, TNAI Delhi State Branch, who motivated the students to participate in the election process actively and emphasised the importance of conducting a fair election.

The Special Note Address was delivered by Ms T. S. Hameed, Principal, Florence Nightingale College of Nursing. She appreciated the initiative taken to organise the election program and encouraged students to uphold professional ethics, teamwork, and commitment in their nursing careers.
Mrs S. Vatchala Dhinakaran, National SNAI Advisor & Assistant Secretary General, TNAI HQ, delivered a Keynote Address on SNAI. She explained the structure, objectives, and various activities of SNAI. She also informed the participants that SNAI elections will now be held annually, to provide more opportunities for students to participate in the electoral process and to develop leadership skills, teamwork, confidence, and organisational abilities.

SNAI Voting Process
Before the commencement of the election, Ms Bhavesh, Principal, VMMC & Safdarjung Hospital College of Nursing, and Returning Officer for the 2026 SNAI Elections, clearly explained the rules and regulations of SNAI Elections to all participants to ensure transparency, fairness, and the smooth conduct of the election process.
The election was planned for three positions, but held for only two, namely;
- SNAI Chairperson
- SNAI Joint Secretary
The ANM Student Representative Post was declared elected before the start of the SNAI Election process by the Returning Officer. All other remaining posts—SNAI Vice Chairperson, SNAI Secretary, SNAI Treasurer, and SNAI Programme Chairperson—were declared unopposed on 3rd March 2026, as per SNAI Circular, due to no opponent contesting the above-mentioned posts.
Following this, the contestants’ self-introductions were conducted, during which each candidate introduced themselves, shared their vision and plans for strengthening SNAI activities, and asked for a vote and support.
The election was conducted from 11:00 AM to 11:30 AM, followed by vote countingunder the supervision of the Returning Officer and TNAI Executive members. The results were officially declared by the Returning Officer, Ms Bhavesh, Principal, VMMC & Safdarjung Hospital.

Report on the “Empowering Healthcare Professionals” Workshop
Theme: Empathic Healthcare and Meaningful Community Engagement of People Living with Multiple Long-Term Conditions (MLTCs)

Introduction
The Empowering Healthcare Professionals workshop was conducted by HRIDAY in collaboration with the Trained Nurses’ Association of India (TNAI) – Delhi Branch, with support from the National Institute for Health Care and Research (NIHR), University of Leicester, Public Health Foundation of India (PHFI), and Kathmandu Medical College.
The workshop was conceptualized as a sensitisation and co-creation programme to develop a structured course module on empathic healthcare and meaningful community engagement for healthcare workers, nursing professionals, and allied personnel. The event provided a platform for joint learning, dialogue, and curriculum development to strengthen the response to Multiple Long-Term Conditions (MLTCs).

Main Objective
The primary objective of the workshop was to co-create a comprehensive course module that integrates:
– Empathic healthcare and communication skills
– Cultural competence in healthcare delivery
– Strategies for effective community engagement and involvement (CEI)
– Behaviour change and self-care support methods for sustainable outcomes
Target Audience
The participants were members of the TNAI Delhi Branch, bringing in perspectives from:
1. Community health services – frontline nurses, CHOs, PHNs, ANMs, ASHAs
2. Hospital-based nursing care – across clinical specialities
3. Medical and teaching institutions – educators and academic trainers
This diversity enriched the co-creation process by combining practical nursing experience, community realities, and academic insights.

Opening Remarks: Framed the need for empathic healthcare and community engagement in MLTCs
Scientific Sessions included: HRIDAY & NIHR MLTCs programme overview, training goals, NCD burden, MLTC clusters and management challenges, health literacy and digital empowerment.
Breakout Sessions: Participants identified core elements for the course module, such as health literacy, use of digital tools, and self-care strategies

Feedback and Outcome

Topic: World Hepatitis Day 2025: Let’s Break it Down

Introduction:
In observance of World Hepatitis Day 2025, Rajkumari Amrit Kaur College of Nursing, in collaboration with the Trained Nurses Association of India (Delhi Branch) and ECHO India, organised a virtual program (online Zoom Webinar) titled “World Hepatitis Day: Nursing Insights.”
Aim:
The event aimed to raise awareness among nursing professionals about hepatitis prevention, early detection, and the vital role of nurses in liver health.

Session Details:
Hepatitis, a group of infectious diseases affecting the liver, continues to be a global health concern. With this year’s theme, “Let’s Break It Down,” the session focused on demystifying hepatitis-related stigma, promoting vaccination, and strengthening preventive care through the nursing workforce.
- The session began with an introduction by Mrs. Madhumita Dey, Associate Professor & Head of Department (HOD), Continuing Education Department, Rajkumari Amrit Kaur College of Nursing, followed by,

- A keynote address was delivered by Dr. Achala, Assistant Director General (Nursing), DGHS, MoHFW, highlighting the national vision on hepatitis control and the frontline role of nurses.
- The program addressed a case presentation by Ms. Shanu, Senior Nursing Officer, VMMC & SJH, which sparked interactive engagement from attendees.
- The session on “Nursing Insights” was taken by Dr. Mini George, Principal, College of Nursing, ILBS, New Delhi, who shared in-depth knowledge about the burden of Hepatitis, its disease aspect, diagnostic and preventive strategies, clinical care with special emphasis on comprehensive nursing action at various capacities.

This session witnessed participants’ insightful questions, particularly around Hepatitis Vaccination Protocols and Practices.

Workshop Report on Lung Health Matters: Empowering Nurses for Better Respiratory Care

Participants: Nurse Educators, Nurse Administrators, Nursing Officers and Students
Introduction:
A one-day workshop titled “Lung Health Matters: Empowering Nurses for Better Respiratory Care” was conducted by the College of Nursing, Nursing Department & Department of Respiratory Medicine, St. Stephen’s Hospital, in collaboration with the Trained Nurses Association of India (TNAI), Delhi Branch. The workshop was addressed by National Office bearers of TNAI HQ and Executive members of TNAI Delhi Branch.
Aim:
- The workshop aimed to enhance the knowledge about lung health and skills of nursing professionals in managing respiratory conditions—an area of crucial importance, especially in today’s healthcare landscape.
Objectives of the Workshop
- To understand the anatomy and physiology of the lungs
- To identify significant risk factors affecting lung health
- To promote early detection and prevention of respiratory diseases
- To discuss modern diagnostic and treatment modalities
- To encourage public health action and advocacy for cleaner air

Inauguration and Opening Session
The workshop commenced with a welcome address by Ms. Elizabeth Santosh (Nursing Superintendent, SSH), followed by an inaugural speech by Dr Sudhir C Joseph (Director, SSH), who emphasised the urgent need to address air quality as a significant threat to lung health. The keynote address was delivered by Dr Shamim Akhtar (HOD, Respiratory Medicine), a pulmonologist, who highlighted the rising incidence of COPD, asthma, and lung cancer in both urban and rural populations. The TNAI National President and Guest of Honour, Mrs Annie Kumar, delivered a special address on an overview of TNAI to the gathering.




Technical Sessions
The workshop was divided into the following sessions:
- Asthma Management and Guidelines:
Dr.Shubham, Respiratory Physician, provided an overview of lung anatomy and common diseases like Asthma. - Oxygen Delivery, Devices and Medications:
A session on the oxygen therapy, devices used commonly, and treatment protocols, including medications, was conducted by Dr Madhu, Respiratory Physician. - Non-Invasive Ventilation and Mechanical Ventilation:
This session focused on artificial ventilation and its management of long-term respiratory conditions. Dr Shamim Akthar, HOD of Respiratory Medicine, conducted this session. - Nursing Role in Respiratory Disorders:
This session focused on the roles and responsibilities of nurses while handling patients with respiratory disorders.
- Practical Session:
Participants were taught about the care of the intercostal tubes, proper use of inhaler devices, introduced to the use of spirometry, inhaler techniques, ventilator mode settings and preparation of patients for the diagnostic procedures of the respiratory disorders like bronchoscopy, thoracoscopy, endobronchial ultrasound (EBUS) and bronchial artery embolisation (BAE).
Valedictory Session:
The workshop concluded with a vote of thanks from the organisers and a post-test and certificate distribution. Feedback was collected from participants, with most reporting that the sessions were explained in detail, with relevant practical sessions

TNAI Delhi Branch Report on “Tele MANAS – An Overview” Webinar

The Trained Nurses Association of India (TNAI), Delhi Branch, in collaboration with the National Apex Coordinating Centre, NIMHANS, Bengaluru, organised a webinar on “Tele MANAS – An Overview.”
Aim of the Webinar:
The Webinar session aimed to create awareness about the Tele MANAS initiative and its role in strengthening mental health services across the country.

The webinar drew 167 participants, including 99 registered attendees and 68 spot participants, comprising staff nurses, academicians, and nursing students from various institutions across Delhi.


Webinar Session Highlights:
Dr. Rekha Anil Kumar, Vice President, TNAI Delhi Branch, moderated the session. Dr. V. Indumathy, Secretary, welcomed the gathering, setting the tone for the event. Dr. Radhakrishnan G, Additional Professor of Nursing at NIMHANS and President of ISPN, delivered the keynote address, emphasising the importance of accessible tele-mental health services. Mrs. Yangchen Dolma, President, TNAI Delhi Branch, presided over the session, appreciated the initiative, and invited the speakers. Mr. Tamilpulavendran V, Nursing Tutor, Tele MANAS, NIMHANS, delivered the main presentation, highlighting the need, objectives, functioning, and current status of the Tele MANAS program. Although Dr. C. Naveen Kumar, Professor & Head of the Community Psychiatry Unit, NIMHANS, could not join for unavoidable reasons, he extended his best wishes to all participants.

Discussion and Q/A Session:
Following the presentation, Dr. Balamurugan G, Assistant Professor of Nursing, NIMHANS, addressed participant queries and provided clarifications. The session was lively and interactive, with participants actively engaging in discussions and raising thoughtful questions, all of which were discussed and clarified by Dr Balamurugan.
Conclusion:
The webinar concluded with a vote of thanks by Dr. Rekha Anil Kumar, who acknowledged the contributions of the organising team, speakers, and enthusiastic participants. The session received positive feedback and was well-appreciated for its relevance and clarity.
TNAI Delhi Branch Report on Signature Campaign and Protest Events Against 80:20 Gender Discrimination Policy in Nursing Recruitment
Aim of the Movement:
The event aimed at gathering public and professional support to demand equal opportunities for all qualified nursing professionals, regardless of gender.
Signature Campaign:
A signature campaign was organised on 16th June 2025 by the Joint Working Committee to protest against the gender-based recruitment ratio of 80 Female:20 Male for Nursing Officer and Senior Nursing Officer positions in AIIMS and ESIC institutions.
The TNAI Delhi State Branch actively participated in the campaign. Members and nursing professionals from various institutions gathered to register their protest by signing in large numbers, marking a strong and peaceful resistance to the discriminatory recruitment policy.


Support for Dharna:
On 22nd June 2025, a massive Dharna (protest demonstration) was organised at Jantar Mantar, Delhi against the gender discriminatory (80:20) recruitment policy in nursing services. This Dharna witnessed participation from numerous nursing professionals, students, and members of TNAI and other nursing associations.

The participants strongly raised their voices against the unfair gender ratio, calling it a violation of constitutional equality and professional dignity. The event featured slogans, placards (such as “Stop Gender Discrimination”) and peaceful sit-ins to raise public and governmental awareness.






Conclusion
The above Signature Campaign and the Dharna reflect the unified stand of the nursing fraternity against gender-biased recruitment policies. These events are part of a growing movement calling for equality, merit-based selection, and professional respect within the Indian healthcare system.
The TNAI Delhi State Branch continues to lead and support such initiatives, ensuring the voices of all nursing professionals—regardless of gender—are heard and respected.

This enlightening session highlighted the role of Artificial Intelligence (AI) in modern nursing. Dr. Tevethia explained how AI is used for patient monitoring, early detection of complications, decision support systems, and electronic documentation. He emphasised that nurses must be prepared to embrace these technological advancements to remain practical and relevant.
9:45 AM – 10:30 AM | Session 2: Interactive Session
Topic: Teamwork Makes the Shift Work: Building a Stronger Nursing Team
Presented by: MSc (Nursing) Students, ILBS; Moderated by: Dr. Sunita Srivastava
Students conducted an activity using the “Six Thinking Hats” technique to demonstrate team decision-making. They showed how clear communication, defined roles, and empathy build team efficiency in clinical settings. The audience actively participated, making this a fun and insightful session.

• MIME Performance: A soulful and moving Florence Nightingale-themed MIME was presented by ILBS students.
Mrs. Yangchen Dolma, President, TNAI Delhi Branch, welcomed all guests, emphasising this year’s theme and the day’s significance. All Dignitaries lit the ceremonial lamp as a symbol of knowledge, care, and commitment. Dr. Mini George, Principal, College of Nursing, ILBS, unveiled the theme and discussed its relevance to India’s healthcare system. Mrs. Annie Kumar, National President, TNAI HQ, acknowledged the spirit of Indian nurses and the vision for nursing growth nationwide. Mrs. Evelyn P. Kannan, Secretary-General, TNAI HQ, elaborated on the history, advocacy, and milestones of TNAI. Mrs. Cicily Babu, Senior Nurse Manager, ILBS, spoke of real-life challenges and triumphs in nursing services. Sr. Prof. Dr. S.K. Sarin, Director & Chancellor, ILBS, appreciated the dedication of nurses and called them the “heart of hospitals”. Dr. V. Indumathy, Secretary, TNAI Delhi Branch, delivered a Vote of Thanks. Resource Person: Ms. Kiran Kanojia & Team (Nursing Officers, Kalawati Saran Children’s Hospital): Through role plays and case discussions, the team demonstrated how assertive communication and respectful dialogue help nurses raise patient care concerns, manage conflicts, and lead quality improvement initiatives.
2:45 PM – 3:30 PM | Session 6: Ergonomics for Nurses;
Topic: Body Mechanics and Ergonomics: Protecting Nurses at Work
Speaker: Dr. Mini George, Principal. ILBS College of Nursing
Moderator: Ms. Bharti Sachdeva
This hands-on session included demonstrations by students on safe lifting, correct posture, and workstation adjustments. Nurses were educated on preventing musculoskeletal injuries using simple ergonomic principles.
4:00 PM – 5:00 PM | Educational and Cultural Program
Students of the College of Nursing, ILBS, nursing officer of RML and Nurses from various esteemed hospitals performed their talents by beautifully choreographed dances, a heartfelt nursing skit, and melodious songs. The performances celebrated the spirit of nursing and left the audience inspired.
