TNAI Delhi Branch Report of State Nursing Excellency Award 2025 Nurses Day Celebration

Introduction:
The State Nursing Excellency Award Ceremony was held on International Nurses Day 2025, celebrating the tireless efforts, compassion, and professional excellence of nurses across the state. The event recognised nurses’ critical role in delivering quality healthcare and contributing to public health, education, clinical care, and nursing administration.
Objective:
To honour and appreciate the outstanding contributions made by nurses in various fields and to promote motivation, recognition, and pride in the nursing profession.
Program Highlights:
The programme commenced with an invocation song, followed by the ceremonial lighting of the lamp by the dignitaries. Mrs Sangamitra Sawant, Dy Secretary-General TNAI, delivered the welcome address. Mrs Vatchala Dhinakaran, Assistant Secretary General & Master of Ceremonies, invited Mrs Annie Kumar, National President, who was honoured with the President’s Chain by Mrs Evelyn P Kannan, Secretary General; Mrs Annu Verma, Project Manager, presented a moving video on Florence Nightingale as a tribute to the legendary nurse. It was followed by a standing tribute to the victims of the Pahalgam attack that created a solemn and respectful atmosphere.


Eminent Speakers of the Special Occasion:
- Dr Deepika C Khakha, Nursing Advisor to the Government of India, echoed the words of WHO Director General Dr Tedros, stating, “Nurses are the heartbeat of healthcare. She urged nurses to become catalysts for change within their respective fields and emphasised the importance of empowering the next generation of nursing leaders.
- Mrs Bimla Kapoor, Chairperson of the NNMC Bill committee, stated that this year’s theme rightly acknowledges nurses’ vital contributions to economic strength. Addressing workforce gaps, she called for uniform eligibility criteria, time-bound recruitment, improved pay packages and greater leadership roles for nurses. She said nurses are not just caregivers but also researchers, educators and pillars of the health care system.

The Award Ceremony was led by Mrs Yangchen Dolma, President and Dr V. Indumathy, Secretary of TNAI Delhi Branch, recognising exceptional service and dedication in the field.

- Captain Dr Usha Banerjee, Group Director Nursing awarded in the Nursing Administration category – With unwavering commitment to high standards of patient care, exceptional leadership, and innovative management practices, she has transformed nursing operations and elevated team performance. Her strategic vision, dedication to staff development, and consistent focus on quality improvement have significantly enhanced the efficiency and morale of the nursing workforce. Her exemplary contribution to healthcare administration continues to inspire a culture of excellence, compassion, and professional integrity.
- Dr Latha Venkatesan, Professor cum Principal, was awarded in the category of Nursing Education – With a career spanning more than 35 years, Dr Latha Venkatesan has demonstrated exceptional leadership, innovation, and a deep commitment to academic and clinical excellence. As a Nurse Educator and Principal at AIIMS, she has enriched the educational curriculum and served as a compassionate mentor and role model for countless nursing students. Her contributions have significantly enhanced the quality of nursing education and patient care outcomes.
- Sister Preeti Margarette, Director of Bethany Sparsh Community Health Centre, was awarded in the Public Health Nursing Field – Shehas consistently demonstrated a deep commitment to improving community health outcomes, spearheading impactful outreach programs, and advocating for underserved populations. Through collaborative efforts, health education initiatives, and data-driven approaches, sister Preeti Margarete has made a measurable difference in the lives of countless individuals and families. This award celebrates professional skill, compassion, and a relentless pursuit of health equity and excellence in community-based care.
- Mr Mathew Varghese V, Nursing Officer, awarded under the Clinical Nursing Category – For more than 20 years, he has served as a cornerstone of excellence within his Unit at IRCH AIIMS, consistently going above and beyond to ensure the well-being and dignity of every patient. He consistently demonstrated exceptional clinical teamwork and a steadfast commitment to the health and well-being of patients and families.

Conclusion:
The celebration concluded with Cake cake-cutting ceremony, a heartfelt Vote of Thanks by Dr Shiny Chacko, National Treasurer, TNAI and National Anthem.
The event was a resounding success, bringing together the stakeholders from across the nursing and health care sectors to celebrate, reflect and inspire. It reaffirmed TNAI’s unwavering commitment to strengthening the nursing profession and building a healthier, more resilient Health system of India.

Report of TNAI Delhi Branch “Training and Capacity Building of Nursing Professionals in Oral Health & Tobacco Cessation” at National Resource Centre for Oral Health and Tobacco Cessation in association with MAULANA AZAD INSTITUTE OF DENTAL SCIENCES (MAIDS)

Introduction:
The TNAI Delhi Branch, in collaboration with the National Resource Centre (NRC), organised a one-day capacity-building and training workshop on Oral Health and Tobacco Cessation (NRC-OH & TC) at Maulana Azad Institute of Dental Sciences (MAIDS), New Delhi. The program focused on enhancing nursing professionals’ knowledge and skills in oral health and tobacco cessation, aiming to integrate preventive oral health practices into everyday nursing care.
Objectives:
• To raise awareness about the importance of oral health in general well-being.
• To equip nursing professionals with knowledge of common oral diseases and their prevention.
• To build capacity in tobacco cessation techniques, including brief interventions and nursing management in tertiary healthcare settings.
• To promote interprofessional collaboration in preventing and controlling tobacco-related oral diseases.
Participants:
The workshop was attended by over 70 nursing professionals from various government and private healthcare institutions in Delhi. Representatives from TNAI and faculty from MAIDS participated actively in the training. The pre–test and post-test were taken from the participants.


Program Highlights – Inaugural Ceremony:
The event commenced with a welcome address by the master of ceremonies, Mrs. Asha and Mrs. Bhawna Hooda. Then, Saraswati Vandana was followed by Lamp lighting.
- Then, Dr. Vikrant Mohanty, Principal Coordinator and Project Head, NRC OH&TC, MAIDS, gave the Overview of NRC-OH-TC, MAIDS.
- Welcome Address delivered by Dr. Arundeep Kaur Lamba, Director, Principal, MAIDS
- Special Guest address was delivered by Dr. V. Indumathy, Secretary, TNAI Delhi Branch.
- Special Address by Dr. Timothy McAfee, Consultant, Vital Strategies, former Director, Office on Smoking and Health, CDC, Atlanta and Professor, Department of Social Behavioural Science, University of California, San Francisco
- Address by Guest of Honour – Dr. Deepika Cecil Khakha, Nursing Advisor, Directorate General of Health Services, MoHFW, GoI, Nirman Bhawan.
- Students at the dental college presented a wonderful Nukkad Natak.
- Address by the Chief Guest – Dr. Navin Verma, Deputy Director, EMR at DGHS, MoHFW, GoI
- Vote of Thanks given by Mrs. Babita, ANS of MAIDS.
Highlights of Scientific Sessions:
- 11:30 AM – 12 Noon: Oral Health and Its Importance in General Health: Common Oral Disease and its Screening Method was discussed by Dr. Radhika Gupta, Research Officer, NRC-OH-TC, MAIDS. This session highlighted the common oral health issues, the link between oral and systemic diseases, and the importance of preventive oral care.
- 12 Noon – 12:30 PM: Recognition and Early Intervention in Oral Diseases: This session trained nurses to identify early signs of dental caries, gingivitis, oral cancer, and other conditions, as well as an appropriate referral system for patients. Tobacco Addiction and Nicotine Dependence by Dr. Deeksha Sethi, Clinical Psychologist, NRC-OH-TC, MAIDS
- 12:30 PM – 12:50 PM: Tobacco and Oral Health: Challenges and Interventions: Tobacco Cessation Intervention session discussed by Dr. Vikrant Mohanty, Principal Coordinator and Project Head, NRC-OH-TC, MAIDS. A detailed overview was provided on the harmful effects of tobacco on oral health. Strategies for tobacco cessation, including the 5A’s (Ask, Advise, Assess, Assist, Arrange), were highlighted in this session.
- 12:50 PM – 01:10 PM: Role of Nurses in Tobacco Cessation and Nursing Management in Tertiary Healthcare Settings dealt by Mrs. Suman Yadav, Nursing Officer & President, NWA, MAIDS
- 01:10 PM – 01:30 PM: Scope of Nursing Professionals in Oral Health and Tobacco Cessation by Dr. Aswini Y.B., Project Incharge & Link Officer, NRC-OH-TC, MAIDS
- 01:30 PM – 02:00 PM: Open Discussion, Feedback and Valedictory by: Team NRC-OH-TC, MAIDS




Conclusion:
The one-day training at MAIDS, in collaboration with TNAI Delhi, proved to be a significant step toward strengthening the role of nursing professionals in oral health promotion and tobacco cessation. Empowering nurses with such knowledge and tools is crucial for achieving better public health outcomes, especially in a country where the burden of tobacco-related oral diseases remains high.
Report of various Nursing Unions, Associations and Principals’ Meet – 2025

Afternoon, 1 pm to 4 pm for Nursing Administrator & Principals
Aim: The meeting aims to collect & compile the complete details of the nursing education sector’s concerns and issues. This helps to ensure all key points are covered and that a plan is in place to take necessary actions for the way forward to represent to the concerned authorities and follow up actions.

Morning Session Meeting:
The TNAI Delhi Branch organised an official meeting with all the Central & State Government Hospitals of Delhi on 21/03/2025. The meeting started at 10:00 am with a prayer song & formal welcome done by the TNAI Delhi Branch. Then, the self-introduction was given by all EC members of the TNAI Delhi Branch, and it continued with the introduction of Nurses Union Leaders (President &Secretary) of the nurses’ unions/association (President and Secretary). Mrs Yangchen Dolma, President of the TNAI Delhi Branch, started the meeting with the proposed agenda, and the Moderators for the meeting were Mr Mansingh, Chairperson of the Nursing Service Committee, and Mrs Santosh Singh, Chairperson of the Socio-Economic Welfare Committee. Record keeping of the meeting was done by Dr V. Indumathy, Secretary of the Delhi Branch, Mrs Ashly Mathew, Chairperson of the Program Committee and Dr Sharwan Kumar Dhaka, Chairperson of the Public Health Nursing Committee.
Afternoon session Meeting:
The TNAI Delhi Branch organised an official meeting with all the Principals of Nursing Institutions of Delhi on 21/03/2025. The meeting started at 2:15 PM with a prayer dance of Sant Parmanand Students & self-introduction of the EC members & the introduction of Principals and Nursing Administrators. Mrs Yangchen Dolma, President of the TNAI Delhi Branch, started the meeting with the proposed agenda, and the Moderators for the meeting were Mrs Savita, Joint Secretary, and Dr Daisy Thomas, Chairperson of the Nursing Education and Research Committee. Record keeping of the meeting was done by Dr V. Indumathy, Secretary of the Delhi Branch.

Result of “State Nursing Excellence Award 2025” by TNAI Delhi Branch

Report of “Student Ambassador for Change: Breast Health Advocacy” Campaign

Venue: Seminar Room, 2nd Floor, Burns & Plastic Surgery, AIIMS, New Delhi
Introduction:
The program started at 11 AM with Registration. The program aimed to educate and empower Nursing Students to become advocates for Breast Health Awareness (Common Breast Conditions and the importance of early detection and prevention strategies) in their communities. To ensure the successful execution of this initiative, a preliminary meeting was conducted with EC members of the TNAI Delhi Branch, as well as all the nursing schools and college principals from New Delhi and Delhi NCR.
Dr. Latha Venkatesan, Principal of the AIIMS College of Nursing, Delhi, has initiated a collaboration between the College of Nursing, AIIMS and the Department of Plastic, Reconstructive, and Burns Surgery in association with the Trained Nurses Association of India (TNAI) Head Quarter. The entire Program was headed by Dr Maneesh Singhal, Professor and Head of Plastic, Reconstructive and Burns Surgery, AIIMS, New Delhi, who is keen to involve Nursing students in learning about common conditions of breast and its reconstructive surgeries.
Participants:
TNAI headquarters had invited the Principals of Nursing Institutions in and around Delhi & NCR and EC Members of the TNAI Delhi Branch. A total of 44 Principals and representatives attended the workshop.

Action Plan Presentation:
- An introduction about the Breast Ambassador Campaign was given by Dr Latha Venkatesan, Principal, College of Nursing AIIMS
- The Common Breast diseases and related treatment modalities were presented by Dr Shivangi Saha, Faculty at BPS, AIIMS
- Ms Aishwarya Raj, a clinical psychologist, explained the psychological aspects and myths of common breast conditions with some case study examples.
- Cervical cancer and its Prevention were presented by Dr Meenu, Faculty, BPS AIIMS
- At the end of the session, the principal’s group was provided time to discuss the possibility of widely implementing the Breast Ambassador Campaign through students in their respective clinical posting fields.
- At the end of the Program, all Participants were felicitated with participation certificates by BPS Team Head Dr Maneesh Singhal, Dr Latha Venkatesan (Principal, AIIMS CON), Mrs Annie Kumar (National President, TNAI) and Mrs Evelyn P Kannan (Secretary General, TNAI HQ)
- The collaborative effort between AIIMS and TNAI reinforced the importance of preventive health strategies and empowering student ambassadors with actionable knowledge in driving positive change in healthcare
- Post Lunch Session Orientation to the Burns, Plastic and Reconstructive Surgery Department of AIIMS Orientation was given by Ms Mamta, Nursing Officer, BPS AIIMS.

The outcome of the Program:
- Mrs Annie Kumar, National President of TNAI, addressed the gathering and mentioned it is a good initiative, and students will get the opportunity to learn more about reconstructive surgeries.
- Mrs. Evelyn P. Kannan, Secretary General, briefed that TNAI’s Learning Management system will be helpful for the nursing students to go through the module on Common Breast Conditions and Awareness, Screening, and Vaccination of Cervical Cancer.
- Dr Latha Venkatesan has informed us that a TOT can be planned sooner so the faculties can guide their students.

Overview:
The Trained Nurses Association of India (TNAI), Delhi State Branch, organised a World Patient Safety Day webinar titled “Strengthening Diagnostic Processes—A Foundation for Safer Patient Care.” Around 50 Nursing Officers from different hospitals in New Delhi actively participated in the online event.
Program Highlights:
- The webinar commenced at 6:30 PM with a warm welcome and introduction by the moderator, Mr Man Singh Jat, Co-coordinator for the Webinar session and Chairperson of the Nursing Service Committee, TNAI Delhi State Branch.
- The Keynote Address was delivered by Ms Yangchen Dolma, President of TNAI Delhi State Branch, who highlighted the significance of World Patient Safety Day and emphasized the need to strengthen diagnostic processes to enhance patient care outcomes.
- The Special Address was presented by Ms. Annie Kumar, Vice President for North Region, who underscored the importance of diagnostics.
Webinar Sessions:
- Session 1:
Mrs. Ashly Mathew, Chairperson for Program Committee, TNAI Delhi State Branch, who is currently working as a Nursing Officer in Deep Chand Bandhu Hospital, New Delhi, elaborated on the topic of “The diagnostic process for Safer Patient Care” in improving patient safety, emphasizing accuracy, timeliness, and coordination among healthcare professionals.

- Session 2:
Mr Pramod V., Nursing Officer from the Quality Cell at Deep Chand Bandhu Hospital, New Delhi, shared insights on “Innovative diagnostic technologies and the Role of Nurses” in implementing and supporting these processes for safer patient care.

Vote of Thanks:
The event concluded with a formal Vote of Thanks proposed by Dr V. Indumathy, Secretary of TNAI Delhi State Branch, who thanked the speakers, participants, and organisers for their contributions and active participation.
Summary:
The webinar witnessed the active participation of nursing professionals and healthcare experts in emphasizing the importance of diagnostic accuracy and strengthening diagnostic processes to ensure patient safety. The sessions provided innovative approaches and highlighted nurses’ integral role in achieving safer and more effective patient care.
Report of Membership Campaign Organized by Dr Hedgewar Arogya Sansthan, Govt of NCT

Program Highlights:
DHASNU (Dr Hedgewar Arogya Sansthan Nurses Union) organised a Membership Campaign in collaboration with the TNAI Delhi Branch. The event started with a prayer song. Ms Ragini Shah, Nursing officer welcomed the DNS Mrs. Iris Alka Massey, ANS Mrs Anita of Dr Hedgewar Arogya Sansthan, followed by welcoming the TNAI Delhi Branch President, Mrs Yangchen Dolma, and Dr V. Indumathy, Secretary of TNAI Delhi Branch. The Presidential address was delivered by Mr Sudhir Rupjee, President of DHASNU.



- Mrs. Yangchen Dolma, President, addressed the gatherings and then explained the History of TNAI, its Vision, Core activities, and Benefits to the Members. Encouraged and motivated the Nursing Officers to become members of the esteemed Nursing Association, none other than the Trained Nurses Association of India.
- The TNAI Delhi Branch activities were presented by Dr V. Indumathy, Secretary of the TNAI Delhi Branch.
- The campaign was also addressed by the gracious presence of respected DNS Mrs Iris Alka Massey and Mrs Anita, ANS of Dr Hedgewar Arogya Sansthan, Govt of NCT.
- The Membership Campaign was concluded with a felicitation by DHASNU to all the Nursing Officers with certificates for their recognition of extraordinary service during the CORONA Period. It was witnessed by the TNAI Branch President and Secretary.
- A vote of Thanks was delivered by Mr Manish Prajapati, General Secretary of DHASNU.



- On behalf of the TNAI Delhi Branch, I thank the entire team of Dr Hedgewar Arogya Sansthan Union, DHASNU President Mr Sudhir Rupjee, Secretary Mr Manish Prajapati, Ms Suman V Singh, Joint Secretary and Mrs Taruna Sharma, DHASNU Coordinator for TNAI Membership, the wonderful opportunity provided and created a platform to motivate the nurses to take up the membership.
- Further the DHASNU team requested the TNAI Delhi Branch to collaborate with DHASNU to conduct a series of webinar sessions as a CNE (initiative by DHASNU supported by TNAI Delhi Branch) for their entire Nurse fraternity who enrolled as life members.

Result of Membership Campaign:
- As a result of this campaign and continuous motivation by the DHASNU President and Secretary and other Officer Bearers, they enrolled nearly 50 Members.
- About 10 to 20 members updated their membership details and were able to bring their membership changed to the actual State of Working.
- Soon, the TNAI Delhi Branch will be organizing a series of Webinar Sessions exclusively for the Dr Hedgewar Arogya Sansthan Nursing Officers.
